Hexarelin (Examorelin) is a synthetic hexapeptide GHSR-1a agonist and among the most potent growth hormone secretagogues characterised in preclinical research. It has a unique dual research profile: as a GHSR agonist producing strong GH release, and as a ligand for CD36 receptors in cardiac tissue — making it the most studied GHRP in cardiovascular research independent of its GH-releasing activity.
Hexarelin Research Background
GH secretion: Hexarelin is one of the most potent GHSR-1a agonists in the GHRP class. Research documents strong GH release but also rapid desensitisation of pituitary GH secretion with repeated administration — a distinction relevant to protocol design in research examining sustained GH axis stimulation.
Cardiac research — CD36 pathway: Hexarelin’s most distinctive research application is cardiovascular. Its binding to CD36 (expressed in high density in cardiac tissue) is independent of GHSR agonism and has generated an extensive body of research examining cardioprotection. Studies in rodent models of heart failure and ischaemia-reperfusion injury have documented significant cardioprotective effects — including reduced infarct size, improved cardiac function, and anti-fibrotic effects — attributable to the CD36-mediated pathway.
Atherosclerosis research: Hexarelin’s CD36 interactions have been examined in the context of cholesterol metabolism and foam cell formation in atherosclerosis models — an area of research distinct from all other GHRPs.
